Condolences of CSTO Secretariat for victims of clashes on border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

The leadership and staff of the CSTO Secretariat were saddened by the news of the victims of the clashes that took place on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan between 14 and 17 September. We sincerely condole with the peoples of the two brotherly countries in connection with the tragedy that befell them.

The Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan play an important role in collective security, making a great contribution to peace and stability in the CSTO area of responsibility, so a constructive dialogue between Bishkek and Dushanbe is necessary not only for these two countries, but also for all member states of the Organization.

We consider unacceptable any attempts to use force to resolve contentious issues and are convinced that there is no alternative to political and diplomatic approaches. The CSTO is ready to step up its mediation efforts in every way possible to achieve a sustainable compromise.
