Yerlan Koshanov urges CSTO countries to create unified online scamming laws

Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament Mr.Koshanov during a meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO, proposed the initiative to create a common legal framework to combat cyber fraud and illegal drug trafficking. The event took place in Bishkek, El.kz reports citing the press service of the Mazhilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Before the start of the meeting, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, received the heads of the parliamentary delegations. He emphasized the significant role of the Parliamentary Assembly in providing legislative support for the CSTO's work and wished the delegates productive work.

Speaking at the meeting, Yerlan Koshanov expressed support for the priorities of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship in the Organization for 2025 and wished the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Shakiyev, success in their implementation.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO can contribute to the creation of a common legal space in the area of combating synthetic drugs and cybercrime. Kazakh deputies are ready to actively engage in this work, especially since we already have legal developments on these issues. By the order of President Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich Tokayev, the responsibility for drug crimes has been significantly tightened at the legislative level. By the end of the current parliamentary session, we also plan to legislate a tightening of responsibility for internet fraud, said Yerlan Koshanov .

The Chairman of the Mazhilis also urged parliamentarians from the CSTO countries to keep a close eye on the situation in Afghanistan, which, according to him, is moving towards stabilization.Yerlan Koshanov expressed the opinion of the Kazakh side on the need to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border. The Target Interstate Program of the CSTO, adopted at the Astana summit, is aimed at addressing this issue. He identified the second task as consolidating international efforts to assist Afghanistan and address the acute humanitarian problems of the country.

The speaker of the Mazhilis reminded that it is precisely for this reason that a Regional UN Center for Sustainable Development for Central Asian countries and Afghanistan has been established in Almaty. Concluding his speech, Yerlan Koshanov  noted that mutual respect and trust are the key to successful cooperation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO and wished for the successful implementation of all agreements reached.

As part of the event, the heads of parliamentary delegations participated in laying flowers at the Eternal Flame in Bishkek.
