Singer Sanat Asuat from Atyrau performed the vocal parts of the lead character in the Russian-language version of Disney’s live-action Moana. For the artist, who recently represented Kazakhstan at an international vocal competition, the project marks another milestone in her career, El.kz reports.
From “The Voice” to Disney
Born in Atyrau, Sanat Asuat received her musical education at the Temirbek Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts. She previously studied the zhetigen, participated in vocal competitions, and gradually transitioned to a professional career in popular music.
The singer gained wider recognition after participating in The Voice of Azerbaijan. Sanat was the only representative of Kazakhstan in the competition and advanced to the final, where she finished third with 20 % of the audience vote.
Her performances also attracted the attention of the international The Voice franchise team. One of the Kazakh singer’s performances, featuring Seven Nation Army, was included twice in the project’s global compilations, including the rankings of the best performances of the week and the month.
What Sanat said about “Moana”
The singer spoke about the new project on her Instagram account. She said that she performed Moana’s vocal parts for the Russian-language dub of Disney’s live-action adaptation and acknowledged the special significance of the project for her.
“Those who have known me for a long time probably understand how important this event is to me.”
Sanat said that she had loved Disney productions since childhood and viewed her participation in Moana as the fulfilment of a long-held dream.
“How wonderful that dreams do come true!” the singer wrote.
For the Kazakh artist, working on a major international project represents a continuation of her professional career following her participation in the Azerbaijani music competition.
What the New “Moana” is like
The live-action Moana is an adaptation of Disney’s animated story, starring Catherine Laga’aia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui. The film was directed by Thomas Kail.
According to the plot, Moana ventures beyond the reef of the island of Motunui for the first time. Together with Maui, she embarks on a perilous journey across the ocean, which is intended to help restore prosperity to her people.
The film had its worldwide premiere in the summer, following which it was released internationally. The film is also being screened in cinemas in Kazakhstan, with the Russian-language version featuring a Kazakh singer performing the lead character’s vocal parts.
