Astana plans to launch test mode of an unmanned taxi service in 2026, El.kz reports.
The trial is part of an agreement between the Kazakh Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Transport Ministry, mayor's office of the capital, and inDrive company.
Astana plans to roll out autonomous vehicle in early 2026 marking the first deployment of the technology in the country.
The deal is considered as strategic move to new formats of urban mobility, improvement of road safety, passenger convenience, and the quality of the urban environment.
Deputy PM — Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, Zhaslan Madiyev emphasized that the key priorities remain public safety, transparent regulatory rules, and careful preparation of the urban environment.
Aray Bekembayev, Head of inDrive Kazakhstan, noted that this project is particularly significant as the company has previously launched its autonomous mobility strategy in Saudi Arabia, and this experience is planned to be applied in Kazakhstan.
He added that field trials will shape a roadmap for future operations, with knowledge-sharing and technical collaboration playing a key role in scaling the initiative.
According to autonomous transport manufacturers, in cities where self-driving taxis are already in operation, the number of accidents with serious injuries has decreased by up to 90 percent.
