Unique nature park established in Kazakhstan

A new regional state nature park Merke has been established in the Zhambyl region. The park is designed to preserve the unique ecosystems of the foothill and mountain zones of the Western Tien-Shan, covering an area of 86,632 hectares, El.kz reports.
According to the press service of the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife, the main goal is to protect the ecosystems of the foothills and mountains of the Western Tien-Shan.
Chairman of the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Daniyar Turgambayev emphasized that the establishment of the Merke Regional State Nature Park is an important step toward effective natural resource management and ecosystem conservation.
The park will create opportunities for the development of ecotourism, environmental education, and greater public involvement in sustainable nature use. Plans also include infrastructure development, the creation of new jobs, and the implementation of scientific and educational programs.
Currently, Kazakhstan has a broad network of specially protected natural areas, including 14 national parks, 10 nature reserves, 7 reserves, about 50 wildlife sanctuaries, as well as other sites such as botanical gardens and natural monuments. The new Merke Park adds to this list, strengthening the country’s environmental protection potential.
