UN Secretary-General thanked Kazakhstan for International Forum of Volunteers
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his greetings and gratitude to Kazakhstan for organizing the International Volunteer Forum in Astana. In his speech, he noted the country's commitment to the development of volunteering, the exchange of best practices and the strengthening of international cooperation, El.kz correspondent reports.
The Secretary-General stressed that volunteers are the embodiment of the values of the United Nations. He recalled that the General Assembly had recognized volunteerism as a key element in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and ensuring that no one is left behind.
"At a time when our human family is facing complex and interconnected challenges, the commitment and dedication of volunteers is needed more than ever," Guterres said.
He stressed that volunteers make a real difference in the lives of people and communities by providing humanitarian assistance, advocating for peace and equality, as well as protecting the environment and doing other important tasks.
Guterres expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the millions of people around the world who devote their time and energy to helping those in need. He called on all governments to support and recognize volunteerism as a vital tool for empowering communities and fostering social cohesion.
"Let us harness the power of solidarity together to build a more peaceful, just and sustainable future for all," the UN Secretary-General concluded.
