Turkestan region preparing for attacks of moroccan locusts

This year, 3.8 billion tenge has been allocated from the republican budget to combat locust pests El.kz news agency reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to experts, locusts can spread to an area of 1.6 million hectares.

Together with akimats, operational headquarters have been created in the regions and a work plan for monitoring and chemical treatment has been approved.

Specialized equipment, including ground and air transport, will be involved in the processing of territories.

On April 8-9, it is planned to begin protective measures.

In other regions, chemical processing of land will begin as locust hotspots are identified. Joint surveys will be carried out in the territories bordering with neighbouring States. Specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan agreed in advance with colleagues from Russia, China and Uzbekistan.
