Head of state meets with UN delegation, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of Akorda.

It was attended by UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Armida Alisjabana, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenči and UN Assistant Secretary-General – Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Ivana Zivković.

The participants of the meeting discussed the prospects for the development of multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN institutions, as well as exchanged views on topical issues of the international and regional agenda.

The President expressed gratitude to the diplomats for their active participation in the Astana International Forum, noting that their proposals through the prism of the UN's activities contributed to the content of this important dialogue platform.

The leader of our country stressed the exceptional role of the UN in strengthening peace and ensuring security.

He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council and expanding the representation of this body.

 

The head of state reaffirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to join forces with the UN in order to strengthen the role of this universal Organization.

 

More than 20 different UN entities are successfully operating in Kazakhstan. In this context, the importance of creating a Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty was noted. Its activities will focus on strengthening the coordination of UN agencies with the governments of the countries of the region through the adoption of comprehensive measures to advance the 2030 Agenda.

In turn, high-ranking UN diplomats shared their impressions of participation in the Astana International Forum, noting the strategic importance of this platform in developing approaches to solving urgent challenges of our time.

The strategic role of Central Asia was also noted, including in the context of the development of transport and logistics potential and digitalization.

At the end of the meeting, the leader of Kazakhstan conveyed his greetings to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
