Tokayev proposes establishing regional center for forecasting climate and man-made disasters

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a speech at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, where he outlined key areas of cooperation in technology, education, and ecology, El.kz reports citing the Aqorda press service.

In his address, the Head of State expressed gratitude to the host country.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev “thanked the Tajik side and President Emomali Rahmon for the organization of the summit and the traditionally warm hospitality.”

One of Tokayev’s central proposals was the creation of a Regional Center for Forecasting Climate and Man-Made Disasters. According to Kazakh leader, environmental threats, natural disasters, and industrial accidents pose serious risks to the sustainable development of CIS countries.

Therefore, it is essential to employ effective tools for early detection and prevention of such crises.

The President emphasized that digitalization and AI are becoming the foundation of sustainable development and competitiveness for nations. Kazakhstan is rapidly advancing its digital agenda, encompassing public administration, the social sector, and citizens’ daily lives.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the establishment of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, ongoing work on a Digital Code, and the preparation of a “Digital Kazakhstan”concept document, which will unify all initiatives and projects into a single national strategy and ecosystem.

The President reaffirmed that Kazakhstan is open to cooperation with all CIS countries in this field.

Continuing on this topic, he noted that a decision had recently been made to establish a university specializing in artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan. A state program has also been successfully launched, covering over 400,000 students and creating conditions for the formation of research teams and DeepTech startups.

Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to collaborate with CIS countries in training a new generation of specialists capable of competing in the global market.

The President also drew special attention to environmental challenges, stating:

“We propose uniting our efforts by creating a Regional Center for Forecasting Climate and Man-Made Disasters. Therefore, we invite all interested countries and international organizations to join the Interstate Program for the Preservation of the Caspian’s Water Resources, initiated by Kazakhstan,” the President emphasized.
