More than 500 sports facilities have been built in Kazakhstan over the past seven years, while a number of other facilities have undergone renovations. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also spoke about increased funding for children’s sports and the number of Kazakhstanis who regularly engage in physical activity, El.kz reports citing Aqorda.
The Head of State linked the development of sports to strengthening human capital and implementing the constitutional principles of the state.
“Our children must engage in sports or physical education. This is the key to our bright future. This goal is of national importance,” the President said.
According to Tokayev, more than 500 sports facilities have been built across the country over the past seven years, while a number of other facilities have been renovated.
The President recalled that amendments were made to the Law “On Physical Culture and Sports” last year. According to him, the updated provisions should provide additional momentum to the development of domestic sports, including national sports.
Tokayev paid particular attention to the funding of sports schools. The amount of funding allocated per student has increased from 233,000 to 415,000 tenge.
“Last year, over 220,000 children attended sports clubs free of charge at the expense of the state. 50 bln tenge was allocated for these purposes,” the President said.
According to him, the number of citizens who regularly engage in physical activity has already exceeded 8 million.
“That is almost half of the country’s population. From this perspective, we can call ourselves a healthy nation. However, this is no reason for complacency,” Tokayev stressed.
In his address, the President also touched upon political reforms and the modernization of state institutions.
“By pooling our efforts, we are successfully implementing large-scale reforms. We have adopted a Constitution that has become a guide for the entire nation, especially for the younger generation,” the Head of State said.
Tokayev also recalled the elections to the Kurultai, the appointment of a Vice President, and the formation of a renewed Government.
“Thus, the country’s main state institutions will be fully renewed. These measures are an integral part of the comprehensive reforms we are implementing,” the President said.
The Head of State also announced a new Address to the People of Kazakhstan.
“In October, in accordance with Article 46 of the Constitution, I will deliver an Address to the People of Kazakhstan, in which I will set out the goals and objectives for the upcoming period,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
