Tokayev outlines tasks for new government of Kazakhstan
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the plenary session of the Majilis of the Parliament, El.kz reports citing Akorda .
“We must follow the path of progressive development. Therefore, along with carrying out radical political reforms, we must take decisive steps in order to carry out profound transformations in the socio-economic life of the country. The main thing is that all our measures contribute to the implementation of the principles of A Just Kazakhstan. First of all, it is necessary to give a new impetus to socio-economic policy. It is necessary to reconsider the development priorities, the principles of support and the tasks facing the sectors of the economy. In the final analysis, the state's policy should decisively move from endless support measures to the promotion of truly high-quality development. The time has come to deal with this not in words, but in deeds," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
The President pointed out that the Tax and Budget Codes, the laws on public procurement, on public-private partnership are based on completely new principles, and stressed that they should become a reliable basis for the implementation of the new economic policy. According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the task is to remove barriers in tariff policy, modernize the agricultural sector, and develop effective approaches to managing and financing the social sphere.
First of all, the Government should play an important role here. We need to start at a new pace. In its activities, the government should combine such qualities as professionalism, responsibility, efficiency, and initiative. The government needs to make bold decisions aimed at stimulating and diversifying the economy for the benefit of the people. This task is of exceptional importance and is of a strategic nature, the Head of State said.
The Head of State said that after discussing the candidacy of the Prime Minister, nominated by the political party "Amanat", with the leaders of the factions of the parties in the Majilis, a common opinion was reached. In accordance with Article 44 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the President proposed the candidacy of Olzhas Bektenov for the post of Prime Minister
Olzhas Bektenov is an experienced civil servant. He has extensive knowledge in the field of economics and other fields, has high organizational skills, is disciplined, honest, and hardworking. Therefore, I think we will have enough opportunities to implement the goals facing the country's economy," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
Newly appointed Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and deputies of the Majilis of the Parliament for their trust and noted that he would make every effort to fulfill the tasks assigned to the Government.
