Kazakhstan plans to launch its third supercomputer, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced during a ceremonial event marking Republic Day, El.kz reports citing Aqorda.
The development of computing infrastructure has become one of the key areas of the country’s digital transformation. Supercomputers enable the processing of large datasets and the performance of complex computations, including those required to develop and train artificial intelligence models.
Kazakhstan already operates its first national supercomputer. Another computing system is hosted by Kazakhtelecom.
The establishment of additional computing infrastructure is linked to the development of domestic IT projects, scientific research and artificial intelligence technologies. Such computing capacity can be used for tasks requiring substantial computational resources.
Earlier, Tokayev set the goal of transforming Kazakhstan into a fully digital nation within three years. Among the initiatives announced by the President were the AI Sana educational programme and the advancement of technology projects.
The government is also placing particular emphasis on supporting IT companies. According to previously released figures, Kazakhstan’s exports of IT services have exceeded USD 1 billion, while domestic digital solutions are used in more than 100 countries worldwide.
The launch timeline, technical specifications and location of the third supercomputer were not specified in the materials provided from the President’s speech.
