Tatarstan unveils bust of great Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbayev

A ceremony of unveiling a bust of Abai Kunanbayev, outstanding Kazakh poet and philosopher, took place today in Kazan, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva, the Minister of Culture of Tatarstan Irada Ayupova, Iskakov Erlan Consul General of Kazakhstan in Kazan, Chairman of Tatarstan Union of Writers Rakil Zaydullin, as well as representatives of the Kazakh diaspora and the public of the city attended the event.

Aida Balayeva emphasized the importance for strengthening cultural ties between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Tatarstan.

“The world of Abai is not only the spiritual heritage of the Turkic people, but also the heritage of the whole world", the minister said.

The sculpture of Abai was installed in at the intersection of Nazarbayev and Kachalov streets in Kazan.
