The event was attended by the teaching staff of the oldest and leading scientific and educational institution in Ethiopia, students of master's and doctoral programs in political science, sociology, geography, history, economics, as well as representatives and graduates of the Center for African and Asian Studies.
In his lecture, Ambassador Sadykov spoke in detail about the current political and economic reforms in Kazakhstan, the upcoming presidential elections on November 20 this year and the parliamentary elections in 2023. He explained the concept of building a Just and Fair Kazakhstan initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
As part of the discussion on the proposed topic, University students were interested in significant constitutional changes taking place in our country, the goals and objectives of the new economic policy of Kazakhstan.
The lecture participants drew attention to the continuing stability within our country and the role of Kazakhstan's multi-vector and pragmatic foreign policy, which demonstrates extreme relevance in modern conditions.
The university students also paid attention to the bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Ethiopia, as well as Kazakhstan's priorities in Africa.
The political weight and economic potential of African countries is increasing every year and Kazakhstan intends to intensify cooperation with African countries. Earlier, as a result of successful cooperation, more than 40 African countries supported Kazakhstan's candidacy for elections to non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018.
During the lecture, the associate professor of African History of Addis Ababa University Abdussamad Hajji Ahmad highlighted the social aspect of Kazakhstan's reforms, noting the importance of the growth of the middle class. “I am sure that the upcoming presidential elections in Kazakhstan will be successful, and your president will lead the country to even greater prosperity. I would like to wish the citizens of your country to achieve their goals to ensure a fair distribution of public goods and the growth of the middle class,” - Ahmad said.
Habtu Dessalegn, PhD in Political Science of Addis Ababa University, shared his impressions following the lecture. “Today we have highlighted a lot of new things about modern Kazakhstan, its current political and economic transformation implemented by the government of the country. I was particularly interested in the pragmatic model of Kazakhstan's multi-vector foreign policy, which allows developing the national economy and peacefully extracting mutual benefits from cooperation with all countries of the world. This is relevant today for Ethiopia, and the experience of Kazakhstan would be useful to us”, - said Dessalegn.
In addition, a photo exhibition “New Kazakhstan” was launched at Addis Ababa University. The students got acquainted with the bright events illustrating the stages of the construction of a “Just State”, as well as the proactive and peaceful foreign policy of the country.
In general, the participants of the event highly appreciated the democratic reforms carried out in Kazakhstan and showed great interest in further studying Kazakhstan's experience of inclusive modernization of political and economic systems.
