Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, who arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit, met with the Speaker of the Majilis Yerlan Koshanov, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Majilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This is Shalva Papuashvili's first official visit to Astana. Welcoming the delegation of the Parliament of Georgia to the Majilis, Yerlan Koshanov noted that the Kazakh and Georgian people are connected by close historical ties and cultural traditions.

“Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the further strengthening of comprehensive cooperation with Georgia. Today's meeting will allow us to discuss the possibilities of intensifying our inter-parliamentary cooperation. At the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, large-scale political and economic reforms are being carried out in Kazakhstan. They have completely rebooted the work of all branches of power and expanded the participation of society in politics," the Speaker of the Mazhilis said.

In turn, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia thanked the Kazakh side for the warm welcome and expressed hope that his official visit would give a new impetus to the development of inter-parliamentary relations.

The head of the Georgian delegation expressed words of support in connection with the floods in the regions of Kazakhstan and wished to overcome the consequences of the disaster as soon as possible. The speakers agreed on the exchange of experience in lawmaking between the deputies of the relevant committees.

The parties discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and Georgia in the economic, agro-industrial, transit-transport, tourism, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
