A meeting took place in the Majilis between Speaker of the Chamber Yerlan Koshanov and Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Dr. László Kövér, who arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit. The parties discussed ways to expand interparliamentary cooperation.

This is László Kövér’s third visit to Kazakhstan, which demonstrates Hungary’s strong interest in deepening its partnership with our country.

Last year, Yerlan Koshanov visited Budapest, where a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the parliaments of the two countries. The current visit is a continuation of the agreements reached.

Welcoming the distinguished guest, the Majilis Speaker emphasized that the parliaments of Kazakhstan and Hungary are committed to further rapprochement and joint work.

During the conversation, the parties paid special attention to the role of parliamentary friendship groups in developing interparliamentary ties and exchanging legislative experience.

Yerlan Koshanov emphasized the high pace of dialogue between the parliamentarians of Kazakhstan and Hungary, expressing confidence that the current visit would become another significant step in strengthening bilateral relations.

Cooperation between the two parliaments is also actively developing in a multilateral format. Lawmakers provide mutual support within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the work of the OSCE and Council of Europe Parliamentary Assemblies. Interaction within the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States has also proven to be effective.

In turn, László Kövér emphasized that the peoples of Kazakhstan and Hungary are bound by a special friendship, and the development of interparliamentary relations has become an important bridge for strengthening the strong partnership between our countries. The Head of the National Assembly of Hungary also highlighted the importance of strengthening ties at the level of committees and parliamentary administrations in the long term.

“Along with our values, traditions, and shared past, we are also united and brought closer by our present and future. You noted that Kazakhstan is soon planning a transition to a unicameral parliament ", László Kövér said.

In addition, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the trade and economic, investment, agricultural, transport and transit, energy, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Yerlan Koshanov presented László Kövér with the “Dostyk” Order on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan for his contribution to the development of cooperation between the two countries.
