Semifinals of Republican Chess Cup held in Abai region

The semifinals of the 2nd Republican Open Tournament “Senat Open Cup – 2025” were held in the Abai Region. The competition brought together 120 participants, El.kz reports citing the regional akimat.
Among the chess players were members of local maslikhats, representatives of public and veterans’ councils, civil servants, journalists, and active citizens. The tournament followed a nine-round Swiss system. As a result, 38 of the top players earned spots in the final, which will take place in August in Astana.
A special award — the “Honorary Silver Badge” — was presented to the Astana team for their high level of preparation and organization.
The Cup is held on the initiative of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.
The semifinal stage in the Abai Region was organized by the regional maslikhat and the local branch of the Chess Federation.
