Salaries of Kazakhstani scientists increased by 70%

Salaries of Kazakhstani scientists increased to 257 thousand tenge. This was announced by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the department.

Previously, the salaries of scientists were not stable and depended on the results of competitions. Now they will receive a stable salary regardless of the competitive procedures for grant and program-targeted financing.

The introduced financial reforms will increase the salaries of about 1200 leading scientists by 70% - from 152 thousand tenge to 257 thousand tenge. These measures will contribute to strengthening the human and scientific potential of 74 research institutes and competencies of domestic scientists.

The Ministry pays special attention to creating the necessary conditions for research scientists. The agency carries out systematic work to ensure that the profession of a scientist becomes more attractive from a financial point of view and guarantees the stability and implementation of important scientific ideas. The issue of increasing the volume of basic funding for fundamental science and research institutes was resolved as part of the execution of the instructions of the Head of State. Relevant changes were made to the legislation on science," said Sayasat Nurbek.

It is worth noting that at the moment the Ministry has announced competitions for grant funding for scientific and (or) scientific and technical projects for 2023-2025, including for young scientists.
