Remains of leader of Korean independence forces returned to Korea

In the Kyzylorda region, a solemn ceremony took place to hand over the remains of one of a historic Korean independence fighter General Hong Beom-do. The event was attended by an official delegation of the Republic of Korea led by Hwang Ki-chul, Minister to Ministry of Patriot and Veterans Affairs, El.kz reports.

The event took place at the memorial complex where the general had been buried. Following a memorial service, an official farewell ceremony was held with the participation of an honor guard.

Governor of the region Gulshara Abdykalikova emphasized that the return of Hong Beom-do’s remains to his homeland carries great symbolic significance for strengthening friendship between Kazakhstan and Korea. She recalled that the decision on repatriation was supported by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the request of former President of South Korea Moon Jae-in.

On August 15, the remains of the general will be sent to his historical homeland.
