Prospects for Kazakh-Portuguese cooperation discussed at MFA

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vassilenko has met with Portugal’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Maria de Fatima Mendes to discuss current bilateral agenda issues, El.kz cites MFA.

During the meeting, particular attention was paid to the program of the upcoming visit of Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi to Lisbon next week.

The diplomats expressed confidence that the upcoming talks between Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister and his Portuguese counterpart, as well as with other government officials, members of the “Kazakhstan-Portugal” parliamentary friendship group, and the heads of a number of Portuguese businesses, will give a significant impetus to the further development of bilateral cooperation.

In general, the interlocutors stressed the importance of intensifying work to expand the bilateral legal framework, including vis-à-vis the signature of a number of agreements in the trade, economic, investment, and legal spheres, as well as in the field of education and science.

The parties highlighted the dynamics in trade turnover between two countries, which at the end of last year reached 30.6 million US dollars – an increase of 53% over 2021 figures.

Also prospects for expanding cooperation in the tourism sphere were discussed. To this end, the upcoming signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kazakh Tourism and Turismo de Portugal will constitute an important step.
