Last week, the project "Bridge  Management System" was approved by the Committee for Roads of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will work by the end of the year,  El.kz reports with reference to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

To date, the experts of the institute have already created a prototype of the program, identified and approved its main modules, and the design of the interface of the information system is being finalized. In addition, a methodology has been developed for assessing the technical condition of road bridges and overpasses.

"In total, there are about 1500 thousand bridge structures on the roads of Republican significance in Kazakhstan. All of them will be digitized in the future. But now our task is to create a fully working system by the end of the year. Therefore, so far, for clarity, it has been decided to make only 20 bridges. This will allow us to work with the algorithms of the program on specific examples. For this purpose, structures in the most unsatisfactory condition were selected. As soon as the system is ready, experts will begin to fill the remaining bridges. We plan to launch SUEM into trial operation in December 2023," said Kaisar Shalkar, Chief Specialist of the Department of Roads and Bridge Structures of KazdorNII JSC.

It should be noted that data on Kazakhstan's bridges, road junctions and overpasses across roads and railways are still stored in government agencies on paper. This complicates the work of planning and conducting surveys, repairs, modernization, reconstruction and construction of strategic road facilities.

When creating a digital database of bridges, specialists relied on the experience of Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

Bridge  Management System is a modern information system that will collect up-to-date electronic information about structures, including passport data of each facility and the results of a survey of their current condition. Within the framework of the project, all bridge structures and overpasses on roads of republican significance will be digitized with the help of drones.
