President of Kazakhstan meets with Green Climate Fund's Executive Director

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Green Climate Fund's Executive Director Mafalda Duarte, El.kz reports citing Akorda.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for expanding environmental cooperation, implementing joint initiatives, and preparations for the Regional Climate Summit, which Kazakhstan plans to host next year.
Kazakh President emphasized that the country attaches special importance to the preservation of natural resources, increasing forest area, and developing sustainable ecological practices. He underscored the importance of consolidating international efforts in the fight against climate challenges, especially regarding food and water security.
Mafalda Duarte, in turn, expressed support for Kazakhstan's efforts and highly appreciated the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan, which is being implemented with the support of the Fund and UNDP.
As part of the program, a disaster risk management system and early warning mechanism are being established in the country, which is crucial for protecting the population and ecosystems.
The parties also noted the need to strengthen environmental culture and respectful treatment of the environment as a foundation for sustainable development.
