The autumn migration of flamingos has begun in the Mangystau region. The first flocks of these rare birds have already arrived at the Karakiya–Karаkol State Nature Zoological Reserve, El.kz reports.
During their seasonal migration, the Karakiya–Karakol area provides the birds with an opportunity to rest and feed. In autumn, flamingos listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan arrive in the area.
According to the reserve’s specialists, the presence of flamingos serves as an indicator of the condition of the local ecosystem. Flamingos are particularly dependent on wetlands and food resources; therefore, preserving suitable habitats for these birds is directly linked to protecting biodiversity in the region.
The Ustyurt State Nature Reserve reported the arrival of the first seasonal visitors:
“Pink visitors have arrived in Karakiya–Karakol! Flamingos listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan have begun arriving at the Karakiya–Karakol Reserve, which forms part of the Ustyurt State Nature Reserve. Flamingos are among the most recognisable bird species.
During the autumn period, the reserve becomes an important stopover site for flamingos during their seasonal migration. The seasonal migration of flamingos is an indicator of ecosystem stability and the conservation of biodiversity.
This natural process plays an important role in environmental protection and the preservation of our country’s natural heritage. Protecting flamingos is our contribution to conserving nature for future generations.”
