Foreign online platforms Pinduoduo and Anthropic have paid approximately 8 billion tenge in taxes to Kazakhstan’s state budget following desk tax audits, according to the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Committee continues its efforts to ensure tax compliance by foreign online service providers operating in the country.

E- commerce platform Pinduoduo paid 6.8 bln, equivalent to approximately 15.1 million dollars.

Anthropic, PBC, the US-based company that develops the Claude AI assistant, paid tax liabilities for previous tax periods amounting to 1.2 billion tenge. The payment fulfilled the notices issued to the company by the State Revenue Committee following desk tax audits.

Access to Farfetch Restricted

Kazakhstan’s legislation provides for restrictions on access to the websites of foreign platforms that fail to comply with tax legislation requirements. This measure has already been applied to Farfetch, whose operator is registered in the United Kingdom. As the company failed to comply with a notice issued following a desk tax audit, access to its website has been blocked in Kazakhstan.

Farfetch is an online marketplace offering clothing, footwear and accessories, including products from well-known brands.

The Committee emphasised that these measures are applied in accordance with the procedures established by law to all foreign platforms subject to Kazakhstan’s tax requirements that fail to make the required tax payments to the state budget.
