It was attended by the heads of parliaments of a number of countries, members of the government of Azerbaijan, as well as the President of the OSCE PA Margareta Cederfelt and the Secretary General of the Organization Roberto Montella.
OSCE parliamentarians discussed topical issues of improving supply stability by facilitating international transport and trade, as well as the role of green concepts and technologies in sustainable development and economic recovery.
The moderator of the conference, Deputy Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Special Representative of the Assembly for the Sustainable Development Goals, Askar Shakirov, noted that the world has faced a serious security crisis over the past decades.
The damage to global supply chains caused by pandemics, conflicts, extreme climate impacts and natural disasters has highlighted the urgent need for OSCE parliamentarians to work collectively, as well as the importance of aligning these efforts with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Our mission as parliamentarians is to translate these intentions into concrete and far-sighted global policies, mobilize the necessary resources and ensure the accountability of our governments," the Kazakh senator stressed.
The conference platform allowed OSCE parliamentarians to exchange views and discuss best practices in the field of sustainable development and connectivity in the OSCE region.
The conference participants welcomed the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish the Council on Sustainable Connectivity within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, in order to effectively develop the transit and transport potential of the participating countries.
During the discussions, the importance of forming effective transport corridors for the development of an interconnected and sustainable global economy, as well as the relevance of the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor as an instrument of stability and security in the OSCE region was noted.
