Over 4,000 groundwater deposits explored in Kazakhstan
4540 groundwater deposits have been discovered in Kazakhstan. According to current estimates, the country's operational groundwater reserves are estimated at 15.7 cubic kilometers, El.kz reports .
The total volume of water resources of Kazakhstan reaches 102.3 cubic kilometers per year, about a quarter of which is used for the needs of the country's economy.
Only about 1% of the total volume of water resources is used for the drinking needs of the population. Currently, the share of groundwater use in Kazakhstan's economic activity ranges between 7 and 10 percent.
"Much attention will be paid to the study of groundwater. A separate department has been formed under the ministry, the National Hydrogeological Service is being created to organize hydrogeological work and conduct state control and monitoring of underground water resources. Part of the functions on groundwater will be transferred from other departments and work in this direction will be strengthened," - said the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
