Every year, about 20 thousand people apply for citizenship of the country. Over the years of independence, more than one million people have become Kazakhstanis, and last year - 22 thousand, of which by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - 1375, in a simplified manner - more than 20 thousand.
Of these, over 17.5 thousand kandas (17,676), under the Agreement on a Simplified Procedure for Admission to Citizenship between Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia - 1287, underw the Convention on the Nationality of Married Women - 1777.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the UNHCR Office in Kazakhstan and NGOs, for two years conducted a large-scale action to identify and register undocumented persons and persons with undetermined citizenship. As a result of the action, more than 8 thousand stateless people who do not have documents were identified. Of these, 5,000 people confirmed their belonging to the citizenship of Kazakhstan and were documented with identity cards. More than 3 thousand are documented with a certificate of a stateless person.
It is important to note that Kazakhstan does not recognize dual citizenship, so the work to identify such facts is under special control. The legislation provides for administrative liability for the use of a passport or identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan by a person who has lost the citizenship of our country, as well as for failure to report to the established by law.
