On February 17, 2024, a landmark cultural event will take place at Glasgow Cathedral: the world premiere of the opera "The Bruce", created by Rakhat-Bi Abdysagin, a talented composer and pianist, a participant in the Bolashak program, El.kz reports.

According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the opera "The Bruce" is dedicated to the historical figure of Robert I the Bruce, the legendary king of Scotland and a symbol of the struggle for independence. The musical work promises to become a kind of bridge connecting the past and the future, and will allow the audience to better understand the character and ideals of this outstanding ruler.

The libretto of the opera is based on the poem Bruce, written by John Barbour around 1375. The poem is a key element of Rahatt-B's doctoral research conducted at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of St Andrews.

The Bruce" is a unique genre – a cathedral opera designed specifically to be performed in the acoustics of the cathedral. As the composer himself notes, his work will tell about freedom, virtue, power and perseverance. The opera promises to show how one person can have a significant impact on the fate of an entire nation, emphasizing the importance of individuality and leadership in history.

The opera will be performed by artists and conductors from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The cast includes a tenor in the role of Robert the Bruce, a narrator, an ensemble of singers and an organist. The organ part will be performed by Rakhat-Bi Abdysagin himself.
