OECD has confirmed Kazakhstan’s accession to the Recommendation on Good Statistical Practice. The country’s national statistical system has been recognized as meeting key international standards in areas such as independence, objectivity, transparency, and data quality, El.kz reports.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, the Recommendation represents the OECD’s first legal instrument in the field of statistics and includes twelve principles aimed at strengthening trust in official information. Kazakhstan has become the first country in the CIS region and the 44th in the world to formally adopt this document.
This decision follows a comprehensive assessment conducted as part of the Review of Kazakhstan’s National Statistical System for 2023–2025.
During the evaluation, OECD experts highlighted Kazakhstan’s significant progress in digitalizing statistical processes, applying modern methodologies, and engaging with data users.
Maksat Turlubayev, Head of the Bureau of National Statistics under the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized the importance of international recognition:
“This is a significant acknowledgment for Kazakhstan’s statistical system. It confirms our compliance with key requirements such as adequate resources, confidentiality protection, a stable legal and institutional framework, and readiness to use new and alternative data sources. This document underlines that the quality of statistics directly affects the quality of analysis and decision-making. We will strive to maintain this level and move forward.”
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s commitment to high standards.
“We look forward to continuing our cooperation and supporting your government’s efforts to build a high-quality and institutionally robust statistical system.” he said.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided support throughout the country’s accession process. This achievement marks an important step in strengthening institutional resilience and enhancing international cooperation in the field of statistics.
