October 16 is World Bread Day
Today, on October 16, 2024, the world celebrates Bread Day. This day emphasizes the importance of bread as the main food product and symbolizes the contribution of grain growers and bakers to strengthening food security, El.kz reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In January-June 2024, Kazakhstan exported 2.4 million tons of wheat and meslin worth $494.1 million. The main export countries are Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, China and Afghanistan.
At the moment, Kazakh farmers have harvested 19.2 million tons of wheat, and the flour milling industry includes 270 enterprises with a total capacity of 9.1 million tons of grain per year. For 8 months, over 2 million tons of flour were produced, which is almost twice as much as domestic needs.
In the baking industry of Kazakhstan, manufacturers provide the domestic market and expand the range in response to demand. This year, the production of fresh bread amounted to 329 thousand tons, and in addition to traditional bread, flour confectionery, bakery products of both long-term and short-term storage appear on the market.
To support the grain processing industry, the state provides preferential loans to replenish working capital within the framework of the Concept for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2021-2030.
