The volume of water in the Northern Aral Sea has increased by 42%, reaching 27 billion cubic meters, El.kz reports.

In addition, the annual fishing volume has grown to 8 thousand tons, which indicates the restoration of the ecosystem of the region.

During a meeting in the Aral region, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov discussed with residents the second phase of the project, aimed at further improving the ecological state of the sea. The meeting was attended by deputies, representatives of the water sector of the Kyzylorda region, scientists and experts.

In 2024, 2.6 billion cubic meters of water were sent to the Aral Sea, of which 1 billion was sent during the irrigation season, which was a record figure. For comparison, in 2022, the volume of water was only 816 million cubic meters.

Minister Nurzhigitov noted that such results were made possible due to the efficient distribution of water from the Syr Darya River and saving resources.

Kazakhstan has established cooperation with neighboring countries for the equitable distribution of water resources of transboundary rivers.

"The project is aimed at improving the ecology of the region, developing fisheries and improving the standard of living of the population. We will continue negotiations and make efforts to maintain a stable level of reservoirs," Nurzhan Nurzhigitov emphasized.
