Mikhail Shaidorov wins olympic gold in Milan

Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov won the gold medal with a total score of 291.58 at 2026 Winter Olympics, El.kz reports citing the press service of the Sports Development Directorate of the Committee for Physical Culture of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

During his performance, Shaidorov landed five quadruple jumps for the first time in his career.

Yuma Kagiyama (280.06) and Shun Sato (274.90) took silver and bronze respectively.

Shaidorov’s gold medal is the country’s second Olympic figure skating medal after Denis Ten won bronze at the Sochi 2014 Olympics.

The country’s President congratulated the skater on his historic victory. The message emphasized that this first-ever Olympic gold medal in figure skating for Kazakhstan is an achievement of historical significance.

The President thanked Mikhail for his exceptional skill and determination to win, noting that sports fans and all citizens of Kazakhstan are proud of the athlete’s outstanding accomplishment.

The Head of State decided to award Mikhail Shaidorov the Order of Barys, 2nd Class, and also expressed gratitude to the coaching staff and the leadership of the relevant ministry for their work. He wished the Olympic champion well-being and new victories.
