At 69 years old, Jan Glazewski discovered buried treasure over 80 years old that belonged to his family, all thanks to a hand-drawn map left to him by his father, El.kz cites Mirror.

The treasure, buried by Glazewski's ancestors more than 80 years ago, was buried in Poland during the early days of World War II. Since then, it has remained safe underground—until Jan Glazewski dug it up. The radio station detailed that the Glazewski family, living in Poland at the time, decided to bury their most valuable possessions as Russia was on the brink of invasion.

By burying their goods underground, which included family mementos, jewels, and heirlooms, they hoped their valuables would remain safe and sound.

The valuables were buried near the family's home at the time, which is now in Lviv, Ukraine.

Unable to return after World War II, the treasure stayed hidden underground until Jan could bring it back to the earth's surface.

69-year-old Jan Glazewski, with nothing but a hand-drawn map left to him by his father, was determined to find this buried treasure.

My father gave me this map and directions, all from memory,” Jan told the radio station.

Jan followed the map on a long journey through fields and a forest to his family's previous estate.

With a metal detector, he scoured the grounds and was able to find a box with jewels that once belonged to his mother, who died when he was a young child, the radio station reports.

Finding these jewels was like touching a piece of my mother’s legacy that was locked in time,” Jan told the outlet.

“It felt like fulfilling a childhood dream of finding a treasure, but more importantly, it was a promise to my father.”

Among the treasures, Jan discovered many things, like jewelry, a baptism spoon engraved with family markings, and other personal artifacts apart of the Glazewski family history.

The items, valued at thousands of dollars, meant much more to Jan Glazewski than just being material items.
