UK adults are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence tools while becoming more cautious in their online behavior, a new report from the UK’s online safety regulator, Ofcom, finds, El.kz reports citingAnadolu.
The study, published on Wednesday, shows that 54% of adults now use AI services such as ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini for a range of tasks, from creative projects to advice and companionship.
At the same time, social media use remains widespread but less active. While 89% of adults use at least one platform, only 49% say they post or engage regularly, down from 61% in 2024.
Users are also favoring temporary posts over permanent content, reflecting growing concern about long-term digital footprints.
Concerns about time spent online are rising, with 67% of adults saying they spend too long on their devices. Fewer users now believe the benefits of being online outweigh the risks, and just 36% say social media is good for their mental health.
The report also highlights a divided landscape for news consumption, with most adults relying on mainstream outlets but split on trust. Meanwhile, some users are seeking new income streams through online marketplaces and digital ventures.
Despite high levels of confidence online, the regulator found gaps in people’s ability to identify scams and assess information accurately.
