KTZ launches a large-scale project to connect passenger trains to the internet. By June, network access will be available in over 700 carriages, and by July, approximately 900 carriages will be equipped with internet, El.kz reports.

It was announced by Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) Talgat Aldybergenov,

According to the company, internet access will become available on approximately 50 passenger routes across the country. Currently, KTZ's passenger fleet consists of about 2,211 units, and the goal is to provide full network coverage for all of them by autumn.

KTZ notes that the connection process is being carried out in stages as part of a railway transport modernization program. It is expected that on-train internet will make travel more comfortable, especially on long-distance routes, allowing passengers to use messengers, online services, and digital platforms during their journey.

The implementation of satellite internet in Kazakhstan's trains began back in 2025. At that time, Starlink technology was first tested on the Burabay Express electric train, providing passengers with high-speed network access.

Later, similar solutions began to be implemented on other directions. In particular, satellite internet appeared on Talgo trains on the Astana - Ust-Kamenogorsk and Astana - Almaty routes, utilizing OneWeb technology with speeds of up to 100 Mbps.

Earlier reports also mentioned plans to provide internet connectivity on the Aktobe - Almaty and Kyzylorda - Semey routes.

KTZ expects that full internet coverage for passenger carriages will be a significant step toward developing modern railway services and digital infrastructure in Kazakhstan.
