Kazakhstan’s role in nuclear non-proliferation praised in U.S. Congress

The Honorable Dina Titus, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Nevada, delivered a Congressional statement on the occasion of the International Day Against Nuclear Testing, observed annually on August 29, El.kz cites MFA.

In her address to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Congresswoman Titus praised Kazakhstan’s significant role in promoting nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. She highlighted the close cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States, which has been a crucial factor in ensuring global security and stability.

She emphasized that Kazakhstan’s historic decision to close the Semipalatinsk test site was a key contribution to strengthening the international non-proliferation regime. Special attention was given to the successful collaboration between Kazakhstan and the United States under the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program, which facilitated the removal and destruction of remaining nuclear materials and technologies.
