Kazakhstan’s key scientific achievement of 2025 named

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has named the country’s most significant scientific achievement of 2025. He made the statement in Astana during an award ceremony for scientists, El.kz reports citing Aqorda.

According to the Head of State, the key achievement was the development of the innovative medical device ALEM.

“It should be noted that today universities are transforming into technological hubs. For example, last year, doctors at the Heart Center of the University Medical Center developed a unique innovation - the ALEM (Astana Life Ex-situ Machine), which can rightfully be called the most significant scientific achievement of 2025. This device makes it possible to maintain the functionality of a donor organ outside the human body for more than 24 hours. Such unique breakthroughs demonstrate the high potential of Kazakhstan’s science,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted.

Technology for Preserving Donor Organs

The ALEM (Astana Life Ex-situ Machine) device is designed for the preservation and transportation of donor organs. The system allows them to remain viable for more than 24 hours.

Unlike the traditional method, where an organ can only be preserved for 4–6 hours, ALEM recreates conditions close to natural ones. The device regulates temperature, oxygenates the blood, and monitors key indicators in real time.
