Kazakhstan unveils Kazakh-language AI model

Kazakhstan has unveiled Alem LLM — a Kazakh-language large model that outperforms ChatGPT and Gemini when working with the Kazakh language,El.kz reports.
The model was officially presented as the largest Kazakh-language LLM, designed to advance AI and digital solutions in the state language.
Alem LLM is the third national development in this field. It follows the earlier launch of KazLLM, as well as a joint project between Kazakhstan and international company Presight G42. The new model was created in 2025 on the YuAI Lightning platform during Dr. Kai-Fu Lee’s visit to the country.
“Alem LLM is a powerful language system with 246 billion parameters. It delivers results that exceed those of ChatGPT and Gemini when processing Kazakh,” Gizzat Baitursynov, Chairman of the Committee on AI and Innovation Development at the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
The model is planned to be made publicly available — it will be free to download and can be used to develop custom AI products. Authorities hope that Alem LLM will become a foundation for automating public services and digital platforms.
“The model will be integrated into systems like eGov, e-Otinish, and other key platforms, and will support the work of public officials,” the committee head added.
