Kazakhstan has officially been selected as the host country for the 2027 World Taekwondo Championships,El.kz reports citing the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation press service.
This marks a historic milestone for Kazakh sports — for the first time ever, the Taekwondo World Championships will take place in Central Asia.
Delegates from all member countries of the federation supported Kazakhstan, noting the country’s high level of organization of international tournaments previously held in Astana.
President of the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation (WT) Kudrat Shamiyev emphasized that this success is the result of consistent efforts to develop the sport:
“We have proven that we are capable of hosting world-class competitions at the highest level. The Kazakhstan Open tournament, held in August in Astana, gathered over 700 athletes, and the organization was highly praised by World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue and international delegations.”
Shamiyev stressed that hosting the World Championships is both an honor and a great responsibility for Kazakhstan, especially ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. According to him, the tournament will serve as a new incentive for the development of taekwondo in Kazakhstan and for engaging more young people in sports.
The 2027 World Taekwondo Championships are expected to be held in Astana, utilizing the city’s state-of-the-art sports facilities that have already proven themselves at major international events.
