Turkish businessmen will provide Kazakh farmers with 1,000 tons of high-quality cotton seeds on favorable terms. The agreement was reached in Shymkent at the site of the business forum "Prospects for the development of cotton growing in the Republic of Kazakhstan", El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"The Turkish company "PROgen" presented new varieties of cotton, resistant to diseases and pests. Seeds will be sold to domestic growers in installments. A loan for the purchase of seeds is ready to provide SEC "Turkestan" until the end of the year. Earlier, a memorandum of cooperation on the development of seed production was signed between Kazakhstan and Turkey," the report said.
The business forum was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Turkish businessmen, producers of raw cotton, representatives of cotton processing plants, scientific organizations, plants for the production of cotton oil, as well as producers of cotton seeds.
"The issue of increasing the share of Kazakhstani content in public procurement, including household goods and cotton processing products, is being worked out. At the first stage, the National Companies will have to purchase up to 70% of domestic cotton products: bed linen, towels, etc. When forming the state defense order, it is also planned to increase the share of local content from 30% to 70%," Vice Minister of Agriculture Abulkhair Tamabek said.
