Kazakhstan takes part in work of UNEA-6 committee of permanent representatives
At the UN Office in Nairobi, Kenya, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia and Kenya (concurrently), Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Nairobi, Barlybay Sadykov took part in the meeting of the Sixth Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Sixth UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), held on the eve of the UN Assembly, El.kz cites MFA.
Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The agenda of the meeting included the preparation of documents and decisions of the upcoming UNEA-6 in the field of environmental protection, ecology, protection of biodiversity and combating climate change. As a result of the meeting, 18 draft resolutions, 3 draft decisions, as well as a draft final statement of the Assembly were considered.
The main task of the Committee of Permanent Representatives is to finalize the expert coordination of all the documents of the forthcoming Assembly and approve them for submission to the Assembly.
In addition, Ambassador Barlybay Sadykov held a bilateral meeting with the Director and Regional Representative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Arnold Kreilhuber, as well as with the Head of the UNEP Sub-Regional Office for Central Asia in Almaty Aidai Kurmanova. During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNEP, holding joint events, taking into account the current chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the SCO and in the International Fund for Saving Aral Sea (IFAS), as well as the One Water Summit scheduled for September 2024 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
From February 26 to March 1, 2024, in Nairobi the delegation of Kazakhstan headed by the Adviser to the President – Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation Zulfiya Suleimenova will take part in the work of UNEA-6.
