Kazakhstan takes part in SCO 2023 – Year of Tourism Forum
The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) International Exhibition Center hosted the SCO 2023 – Year of Tourism Forum, organized by the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) together with the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), El.kz cites MFA.
The event was attended by over 200 three heads of tourism organizations, representatives of international organizations, government and business structures, experts in the field of tourism and diplomatic missions of the embassies of the SCO member states, observers and dialogue partners.
At the opening ceremony of the event, the head of the Kazakh delegation, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Yerkinbayev told the participants that Kazakhstan, as the state chairing the Organization in the period from 2023 to 2024, attaches special importance to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of the SCO in the field of tourism. In this context, he stressed that Almaty has been declared the tourist and cultural capital of the SCO.
Special attention was paid to the promotion of the tourism potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Year of Tourism of Kazakhstan in China in 2024.
SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming recalled that since 2021, the practice of decision-making by the SCO Council of Heads of State of each calendar year has been established in order to determine the key thematic area of cooperation, i.e. to declare a thematic year within the framework of the Organization.
Thus, 2023 has been declared the "Year of Tourism", within the framework of which this forum is held.
Within the framework of the forum, an exhibition was held, where Kazakhstani products with a national flavor were presented and B2B/B2G platforms for the exchange of experience in the field of tourism were organized. The Kazakh delegation included the heads of the tourism departments of Almaty and Akmola region, as well as Kazakh tour operators.
