Kazakhstan strengthening cooperation with WIPO in field of innovation and intellectual property

The meeting between Asset Irgaliyev, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization and International Economic Organizations, and Daren Tang, the Director General of WIPO, took place at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), El.kz cites MFA.

During the meeting, they discussed issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of intellectual property (IP) and innovation.

Daren Tang noted that WIPO, being a catalyst for the growth and development of intellectual property in the field of innovation, had also applied a horizontal approach. This approach includes integrating IP into education, health, justice system, small and medium-sized businesses and research centers.

During the meeting, the launch of a new WIPO project for women entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan, starting on July 4 this year, was announced. Daren Tang emphasized the importance of Kazakhstan as a historical bridge between different parts of the world, and noted the significance of such activities as the Astana International Forum.

The Permanent Representative Irgaliyev noted the importance of building a knowledge-based economy for Kazakhstan, and expressed readiness for opening new opportunities for partnership with WIPO in the region. He also proposed to Daren Tang to organize a separate session on innovation and the creative economy for WIPO in the framework of the Astana International Forum next year, emphasizing that innovation is the driving force behind the development of the economy of the future.

During the meeting, Asset Irgaliyev also thanked WIPO for its assistance in developing the innovation strategy and emphasized the importance of using all opportunities to develop the country’s innovation potential.

WIPO and Kazakhstan agreed to continue close cooperation and implementation of joint projects aimed at developing intellectual property and innovation in the region, strengthening mutual partnership for the benefit of both parties.
