Kazakhstan selects partner for NPP construction

The final discussion regarding the selection of a supplier for the nuclear power plant (NPP) construction project in Kazakhstan was held in Astana, El.kz reports.
The Atomic Energy Agency held the negotiations with a South Korean company on the NPP construction in Kazakhstan.
The meeting, held on March 26, discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy, including the localization of production, the training of engineering personnel and the implementation of integrated projects.
Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency Almasadam Satkaliyev emphasized the significant experience of the Korean company in the construction and operation of modern reactors, and also noted that Kazakhstan intends to build a dialogue on the principles of openness and technological transparency.
In his turn, the General Director of the Korean company expressed his readiness to offer the Kazakhstan advanced Korean solutions and share the accumulated practices. He stressed that South Korea is interested in a strategic partnership and is ready to participate in the project not only as a supplier, but also as a long-term partner.
According to the Agency, this was the final meeting with potential foreign suppliers of nuclear technology. Now the country is moving on to evaluating proposals in order to choose the best partner to launch the project of the first NPP in the history of Kazakhstan.
