Kazakhstan rises to 34th position in IMD world competitiveness ranking

Kazakhstan has improved its position in the updated IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2025, securing 34th place, El.kz reports citing BAQ.KZ.
The ranking is compiled annually by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD)in Switzerland, which assesses the economic performance of countries worldwide.
This year, the study covered 69 economies, including new participants — Kenya, Namibia, and Oman. The ranking evaluates a wide range of indicators, from macroeconomic stability and government efficiency to the business environment and infrastructure.
According to the 2025 results, Switzerland, Singapore, and Hong Kong once again took the top positions. By climbing one spot, Kazakhstan has demonstrated positive growth dynamics and continued improvement in business conditions and investment attractiveness.
The IMD report notes that Kazakhstan has been steadily strengthening its position in the ranking over the past several years:
• 2021 — 37th place
• 2022–2023 — 35th place
• 2024 — 35th place
• 2025 — 34th place
Among the key priorities for 2025, experts highlight:
• ensuring a stable fiscal policy to support sustainable economic growth;
• modernizing the energy and utility sectors;
• training qualified personnel for industrial and innovative sectors;
• integrating artificial intelligence into the e-government system;
• improving the investment climate and conditions for entrepreneurship.
At the same time, the report notes that Kazakhstan continues to face challenges related to infrastructure development, technology, and human capital.
