The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has provided the National Veterinary Reference Center with a high-precision genetic analyzer, the SeqStudio Flex 8, developed by Applied Biosystems, El.kz reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The equipment is designed for the diagnosis of particularly dangerous infectious diseases such as anthrax, blackleg, and brucellosis.

The new devise will enable specialists to carry out precise molecular genetic identification of infectious agents. This approach is especially important during outbreaks of epizootics and cross-border threats, as it helps to determine the source and transmission pathways of the disease.

“We highly value the support from FAO and are committed to continuing productive cooperation within the framework of the ‘One Health’ concept. The provided equipment significantly enhances our capacity for early diagnosis and monitoring of dangerous diseases,” Vice Minister of Agriculture Amangali Berdalin noted.

The SeqStudio Flex 8 also supports 16S rRNA gene sequencing — one of the key methods for identifying bacterial cultures. Additionally, the device offers reliable technical support and consistent supply of consumables, making it a convenient and effective tool for veterinary laboratories.

The transfer of this equipment is another step in strengthening the partnership between FAO and Kazakhstan within the implementation of the ‘One Health’ concept, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health.
