The Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Agency has developed a draft “Nuclear Industry Development Strategy Until 2050”, El.kz reports.
According to Agency’s Chairman, Almassadam Satkaliyev, the draft “Strategy for the Development of the Nuclear Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Until 2050” is currently undergoing approval with the relevant government bodies.
“The Strategy envisions the formation of a modern and highly competitive nuclear cluster in Kazakhstan, including the construction of several nuclear power plants, the development of a raw material base, the establishment of new nuclear fuel cycle facilities, and the safe management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. Particular attention will be given to ensuring nuclear, radiation, and physical security at facilities, advancing nuclear science and medicine, promoting localization of production, and engaging domestic specialists,” Satkaliyev emphasized.
The document also provides for the development of human resources in the nuclear industry — from training mid-level specialists to highly qualified engineers, supporting domestic universities, expanding international educational cooperation, and offering practical training on modern reactor simulators.
One of the key priorities of the Strategy will be the improvement of the regulatory and institutional framework to ensure effective oversight and control over activities related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
