Kazakhstan preparing for International Year of Volunteers

A meeting took place at Maqsut Narikbaev University with Mr Toily Kurbanov, Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and representatives of volunteer organisations, youth activists, and government structures. The main topic of discussion was the event plan dedicated to the International Year of Volunteers, which will take place in 2026 at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, El.kz reports citing the press service of Kazakh  Ministry of Culture and Information.

The parties exchanged views on key areas of volunteer development in the country. Special attention was given to the participation of Kazakhstani volunteers in national and international projects, as well as the preparation of new initiatives that will be implemented within the framework of the International Year of Volunteers.

During his visit, Toily Kurbanov also presented an overview of the global agenda of the UN Volunteer Program, emphasizing the significance of the upcoming year as an opportunity to enhance the contribution of volunteering to sustainable development and strengthen solidarity at the global level.

On the eve of the meeting, the Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva met with Toyly Kurbanov.

The parties discussed the goals and objectives facing the National Organizing Committee of Kazakhstan. Proposals aimed at opening new opportunities to enhance the contribution of volunteering to achieve the global sustainable development goals were also considered, the press service reported.
