Kazakhstan is preparing its infrastructure for the introduction of autonomous transport. This was announced by Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev at a government meeting, El.kz reports.

The minister clarified that global practice shows the rapid development of unmanned technologies:

“Autonomous taxis are already operating in cities around the world, and the shift of freight transport to unmanned vehicles is only a matter of time.”

He emphasized that road construction will take into account the requirements for installing sensors necessary for the movement of autonomous vehicles in Kazakhstan.

Sauranbayev said that discussions on a pilot project are being held jointly with the EAEU countries. Testing is being considered at border checkpoints, where queues often form due to passport control; an unmanned transit system could help speed up the process.

“If we launch a large pilot project with our neighbors in 2027, this will significantly strengthen Kazakhstan’s transit potential,” the minister noted.

At the same time, the development of future taxi services is also underway. Sauranbayev said that a draft law is being prepared to regulate not only autonomous taxis but also air taxis. The document is expected to be submitted to Parliament next year.
