At the Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2025) in Oslo, Kazakhstan officially joined the 50-in-5 initiative, which aims to implement digital public infrastructure (DPI) in 50 countries by 2028, El.kz reports.
The program, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNDP, UNICEF, and others, helps create user-friendly and people-centered public services through digital identification, electronic payments, and data exchange platforms.
Launched in 2023, the initiative brings together countries and organizations to share experiences and technologies, reducing the costs of digital transformation.
Successful examples of DPI — such as India’s Aadhaar system and Brazil’s Pix — demonstrate how digital infrastructure improves access to services and stimulates economic growth.
Kazakhstan already has a strong foundation, with 10.9 million users of the eGov Mobile platform and the ongoing “Digital Kazakhstan” program. Participation in 50-in-5 will further strengthen the country’s position as a regional leader in digitalization.
